About NL Applied AI

AI implementation should not require a business to manage five individual specialists.

NL Applied AI was built around a simpler model: one accountable delivery partner, with the right technical specialists assembled around each project.

Nedra Lukas

Founder & Managing Director

I founded NL Applied AI to bridge a gap I kept seeing in the AI implementation market: businesses often need several different kinds of expertise to move an idea into production, but they are left trying to identify, hire, coordinate, and quality-check multiple independent specialists themselves.

NL Applied AI brings that work under one managed delivery model. We define the problem, bring in the specialists the project actually requires, coordinate implementation, test the result, and remain accountable for the work as a whole.

The goal is not to sell AI for its own sake. It is to help businesses build systems that solve real operational problems and can actually be used in the real world.

Why NL Applied AI exists

AI projects rarely fail because nobody can make a demo.

The harder part is turning an idea into a reliable system that fits the way a real business actually operates.

That can require business-process analysis, solution architecture, AI engineering, workflow automation, APIs, data work, custom development, testing, documentation, security considerations, deployment, and ongoing technical support.

Expecting one contractor to be excellent at every part of that process creates unnecessary risk. Hiring each specialist separately creates a different problem: now the client has to manage the technical team.

We built NL Applied AI to sit in the middle.

One managed team. Specialist expertise where it is needed. Clear ownership from requirement through production.

A different kind of technical team

We do not maintain a large development team and try to fit every project into it. We assemble the team around the requirements of the work.

Specialists matched to the work

A project may require an AI architect, automation engineer, API developer, data specialist, QA evaluator, security specialist, or technical writer. We bring in expertise according to the actual project requirements.

One accountable partner

Clients work with NL Applied AI as one delivery partner rather than separately coordinating multiple independent specialists.

Independent quality control

Where appropriate, implementation is independently reviewed by someone who was not responsible for the original build. The objective is not simply to finish the project. It is to deliver something dependable.

Architected | Built | Tested | Managed

Canadian-led. Globally capable.

NL Applied AI is based in Canada and works with carefully selected independent technical specialists across international markets.

That model gives us access to a wider range of expertise and allows us to assemble the right team for each engagement rather than maintaining unnecessary permanent overhead.

Geography does not replace standards.

Contractors are selected according to the skills required for the work, and project responsibilities, access, deliverables, testing, and communication are structured around the needs of each engagement.

The client still works with one company: NL Applied AI.

The right expertise, when the project requires it.

Every engagement is different. Depending on the project, an NL Applied AI delivery team may include:

AI Solutions Architect

Translates business requirements into a practical technical architecture and implementation plan.

Full-Stack / API Developer

Handles custom development and integrations where off-the-shelf automation is not enough.

Data & RAG Specialist

Prepares information, retrieval systems, databases, and knowledge pipelines used by AI applications.

AI / LLM Engineer

Builds AI agents, model-driven workflows, retrieval systems, and other AI functionality.

Security Specialist

Reviews relevant access, data-handling, permissions, and implementation risks where additional security expertise is required.

QA & AI Evaluation Specialist

Tests expected behaviour, edge cases, workflow failures, outputs, and agreed acceptance requirements.

Technical Writer

Creates documentation, operating instructions, and clear handoff materials for the finished system.

Automation Engineer

Connects systems and builds automated workflows across business software and APIs.

Project Management

Coordinates specialists, milestones, communication, scope, and delivery across the engagement.

What matters to us

Practicality over AI theatre

We do not recommend AI merely because AI is available. If a simpler automation or conventional software solution makes more sense, that should be part of the conversation.

Independent verification

Building something and proving that it works are not always the same job. Appropriate projects should include separate review and testing.

Clear scope

Technical projects become difficult when nobody knows where the boundaries are. We believe responsibilities, milestones, deliverables, and acceptance criteria should be clear.

Long-term usability

A production system should not become an undocumented black box that nobody can maintain after launch. Documentation, handoff, and ongoing support matter.

A note from the founder

I do not believe the client should have to become the project manager of their own AI implementation.

My role at NL Applied AI is not to pretend to be every technical specialist on the team. It is to make sure the right people are involved, the project is clearly defined, the client understands what is happening, and the work moves toward a useful finished result.

I also believe transparency matters. NL Applied AI is a newly formed firm. We are building our company portfolio intentionally, which is why we are currently accepting a limited number of Founding Client engagements. The firm may be new, but our delivery model is specifically designed to bring experienced independent specialists together around each project.

The standard I want the company to become known for is simple: clear thinking, capable people, honest communication, and systems that work beyond the demo.

What we are not

We are not interested in adding AI where it does not belong.

We are not a one-person operation presenting itself as a multidisciplinary development department.

We are not tied to one automation platform, CRM, model provider, or software ecosystem.

We do not promise that AI will always be correct, and we do not believe production systems should be designed as though failure is impossible.

And we do not believe every business problem needs AI.

The technology should serve the business problem, not the other way around.

We are currently building our first portfolio of NL Applied AI engagements.

A small number of qualifying clients can access introductory Founding Client pricing while receiving the same architecture, specialist implementation, project coordination, independent testing, documentation, and deployment model described throughout this site.

Founding Client availability is intentionally limited.

Have a business problem that might be solved with AI?

You do not need to know what technology should be used or how the system should be architected.

Bring us the problem.

We will help determine whether the opportunity is a fit and what a sensible technical approach could look like.
